01

Describe the job before asking for a price

Write down the problem, when it started and the result you want. Share a few clear photos, your city and relevant equipment model numbers. Distinguish a diagnostic visit from a repair or replacement quote.

02

Check the business behind the profile

A directory listing is a starting point. Confirm the business name, who will perform the work and whether they serve your address.

  • Ask for applicable license or credential details and verify them with the issuer.
  • Request current insurance information for the work being proposed.
  • Look for recent examples of similar projects, with permission from the property owner.
03

Make the agreement clear

Before work begins, get the scope, exclusions, payment schedule and warranty in writing. Ask who approves additional work and who handles a callback. Keep the accepted quote, invoice and project photos together.
