How to compare quotes beyond the total

Two quotes can describe very different jobs. Bring them onto the same page before choosing.

01

Compare the scope line by line

Check quantities, model numbers, materials and labor. A replacement-only quote may exclude removal, disposal, access work or changes to existing connections. Ask each provider to state what is included.

  • Exact equipment and material specifications
  • Labor, cleanup and disposal
  • Access requirements and any necessary approvals
  • Startup, testing and handover
02

Compare the terms

Review deposits, progress payments, warranty coverage and how unexpected conditions are priced. Separate manufacturer coverage from the installer’s labor warranty. Ask who you call if something fails after installation.

03

Use the same information for every bidder

Send the same photos, dimensions and project notes to each provider. Request revised written quotes when the scope changes. A lower total is only useful when you understand what it buys.
