Pool pump repair or replacement: what to compare

A pump decision starts with a diagnosis and a comparison of the complete installed options.

01

Ask what has actually failed

Get a written diagnosis identifying the component and the proposed repair. A motor, seal, control or plumbing problem can produce different repair options. Share the model number, symptoms and service history with the technician.

02

Compare complete installed costs

A replacement quote should identify the pump, the necessary plumbing and electrical work, any control-system setup and startup checks. Ask how the proposed equipment matches the pool’s circulation needs.

  • Written repair scope and warranty
  • Replacement model and installation scope
  • Compatibility with existing controls
  • Any additional connection or access work
03

Ask for assumptions behind savings

An operating-cost estimate should state the assumed power draw, operating hours and electricity rate. Ask the installer to explain those assumptions for your pool. Avoid treating an example calculation as a guaranteed saving.
